Are the Bristol Hash breaking new ground by holding the AGPU after a hash?
Considering the poor turnout for the last few AGPUs (held on the traditional Saturday
night) it was decided that a Sunday afternoon aprés-hash event might just generate
enough interest to guarantee there are more hashers present than there are committee
positions to be filled!
I am sure that Wolfie will be producing an agenda, including the "Grand Bru Affair"
which I understand the BBC are seriously considering claiming broadcasting rights for a
future Panorama!
Continuing on the fictional theme, as custodian of the Hash cheque-book, I am giving below
details of the accounts for the 12 months ending on 31st December 2000.
Our main annual event (the Haggis Bash) was as popular as ever and generated a small
profit, and the Joint Summer event (BH3 900th and K&A 500th was also a success,
although this made a small loss. Both of these events were held at Parkend which once
again proved what a brilliant location it is. All the other "dos"
were there - the Xmas
Fancy Dress Party (chez-Sweatmonster) and the Xmas Meal in Bath. There were
several other smaller barbecue type events at Weston, LunchBox's and HBK's.
The membership average (17.5 per half year) was slightly up on previous years (16.0)
but guests and visitors showed a significant increase, and this trend already appears to
be maintained in 2001. Down-Downs also appeared to have gone up - at an average
price of £1.88 a pint this represents roughly 2 and a half pints of beer per week,
although probably not all of it drunk! I do not have exact details of stock-in-hand
of T-shirts etc as the Haberdasher is away in Goa, but I am aware of his desire to come
up with a new design for haberdash, irrespective of whether he is re-elected or not!
The net result is an overall loss of about £215.00, but the bank account still shows a
reasonably healthy balance.
The Future for BH3: At present we are in the middle of a foot and mouth crisis which
potentially threatens the existence of many rural and country hashes if there is
prolonged exclusion from farmland, National Parks and Woodland. Hopefully Bristol
Hash will survive to entertain hashes for it's l,000th run scheduled for July or August
2002. It has been a long time since we organised an event which we have put out
a general invitation. If we are serious about putting on a large event, then we should
start preliminary discussions now - any volunteers for the committee?
